This was a very interesting article about the de-contextualizing of art and copy right. The article focused on these two images. The first is a photo by Susan Meiselas and the second is a painting of the photo by Joy Garnett. Susan wanted to keep the content of her photograph in tact and so she sent her lawyer on Joy. But Joy didn't feel that she was truly infringing on the copy right. So the question is does the idea and goal of the original artist hold sway with the copy right. Copy right laws are so confusing and I don't understand it some times. I think that Joys version was taken out of context enough to keep her out of trouble. The other interesting thing about this article is the use of this image in so many different ways and on so many different things. It has become an image embodying revolution.
